I declare myself an Artist

Much like Michael Scott declaring bankruptcy, I have decided to declare myself an artist. Do I have any training you ask? No. Do I know what I am doing in any way, shape, or form? No. Does all of what I do know about painting come from an $8 booklet called "Everything You Need to Know About Painting with Oils"? Yes. And so I declare it: "I am an artist".

And much like Oscar telling Michael that you cannot simply declare something and expect anything to happen; my husband also told me "Amy, you cannot just say that you are an artist and then expect something to happen". And that is when I told him "I didn't just say it, I declared it". And so now I am waiting for something to happen. And guess what the best part is, I really have absolutely no idea what I want to have happen, nor do I expect anything to actually happen anyways. But here is what I do know. I know that for some reason God gave me a love for art and painting. I know that I am constantly thinking about something that I should be painting. I know that I am forever saying, "oh I could paint that" (sometimes I can, and sometimes I cannot). And I also know that there was no way I would ever pay $5,000 for a painting of a giraffe's face, when I could get kind of close myself.

Bob Ransley art

So during nap time, I made an attempt. I can count on one hand the number of times I have painted with oil paints, but you have to start somewhere. No, mine is not done. And no, mine is not worth $5,000. And no, I cannot figure out how to keep my oil colors from blending together and getting all muddy looking (maybe that is why Bob charges $5,000 for his work), but at least I am giving it a shot. How about you? Have you ever declared something and then by the grace of our good Lord...made it happen? I would love to hear about it if you have. My sister declared herself a photographer and then made it happen. And just tonight my husband said that he has declared himself a race car driver, and he fully expects for a race car to show up in our driveway tomorrow morning. What a funny man he is... he thinks he is being sarcastic, but I'm likin' the way he's thinkin'.

Are you using oils or acrylics. Oil takes a really long time to dry. With acrylics you could wait till a color drys before using another one. I'm not an artist but my aunt was and I did learn a little from her. Any way by the way, you are doing an awesome job. If I could afford a $5000 painting, I just might buy it because the giraffe is my favorite animal. I have real life pictures of giraffes, that I saw in the wild in Africa, hanging in my house.

Oh sweet Amy, you are an artist... this we know from the pictures you paint with your inspired words. But it must be said, I giggled only slightly when I saw that a Giraffe was your first work as an official artist. You, my dear, are adorable!!!

Your giraffe is very impressive! And I love this idea of declaring yourself what you want to be. Good for you.

I declare myself a runner! There...that's the first time I said it out loud (well, typing). And I'm declaring I will run a 5K in the spring/summer. I better quit with this declaring so I can keep up with myself.... haha! Your painting is REALLY great! You totally are an artist...I thought that way before you declared it. Like when you had the art camp...you're totally an artist..a good one!

You rock!! I seriously love reading your blog. :) Thanks for the inspiration! Maybe I would get a lot more of the things I want done if I was to declare instead of just to say, dream, wish, sheepishly attempt, etc.

The ears on your giraffe are totally better than the Ransley one!! Look at them...they are way more real! You go girl!

Girl, I could've told you that you were really an artist a long time ago. I mean, you painted high heels on your play room walls and they looked like real high heels. Who does that? Artists do! If I win the lotto, I'm gonna offer you a million bucks for your giraffe and then you'll be official. hee-hee!

Sometimes I think I declared myself a writer, and voila! My book was on the shelves. That's because it feels like a dream. I often have to pinch myself!

You know, dreams can come true! :-) Declaring is strong, has good energy and yes, it will happen...I firmly believe this.

I am not an artist...yet...however, I can be! I love to use acrylics in my playing and painting. I really want to take some lessons but I think just doing it is positive! Sending you lots of positive energy and the knowledge that yes, you CAN do this.

I think you're wonderful.

#1. Your giraffe is great. Maybe not worth $5000, but worth a lot. Seriously.

#2. You make allusions to The Office. Which make me smile.

#3. You are generous, and funny, and kind, in addition to being an artist.

#4. Your relationship with God is so real and inspiring.

All right, then. I am declaring you wonderful.

i declare your painting of a giraffe beautiful! muddy or not your doing it! i declared myself an artist about 10 years ago and it's taken me some time to get to where i am, but it won't happen if YOU don't believe in yourself! i paint on walls and furniture mostly, but have recently painted on canvas w/ acrylics and i have to say it turned out pretty cute! there's something about putting yourself on canvas that makes it more real and more scary! so go for it girl- when God gives you talent, you must do w/ it what you can and He'll do the rest!!!! i feel a kindred spirit w/ you! hugs~D
