I blame the closets

Do your closets scare you? Mine do, especially my girls' closets. The lack of organization is extremely frustrating. Especially on Sunday morning when for once in my life I want to not be the last couple in a 2000 person congregation to walk through the sanctuary doors. It doesn't matter what piece of clothing that I am looking for in these two closets of theirs, it will be the one and only thing that I cannot find. And then the tears start.

Child: "these shoes feel funny"
Me: "I am sorry, I can't find the other ones, you'll be fine"
Child: "but they bother my toes and I can feel the line"
Me: "I don't care, stop whining"
Child: "but why does Ella get to wear a dress and the other shoes"
Me: "because she found her dress, and we cannot find yours"
Child: "but it's not fair"
Me: "life isn't fair, get used to it, stop talking and brush your teeth so we can go to church"
Child: "but I want the twirly skirt"
Me: "you are talking again, and I said no talking, in fact, no one is allowed to talk to me for the rest of the day"

Do you think these are the joyful hearts that God intended to walk into his house every Sunday to worship? I think not, and I am blaming the closets. So, though I told you in the beginning of this house tour that we were done remodeling, I am temporarily lifting that sanction and claiming this week as "let your husband break out the power tools one more time and build an efficient closet system for your kids before someone looses their mind" week. Say tuned...

if we are all honest, i think we would admit that Sunday mornings are like that in most houses!

I once heard one of our favorite Christian comedians do a line on this very same thing. He said everyone is screaming, yelling, its total chaos on a Sunday morning, kids are fighting in the back seat("Shes touchin me!!!!!!!") you yell to quiet them down, run into church and the first person you see ya break out the biggest, most calm smile and say "good morning. God bless you."

Have you been to my house on a Sunday morning, because I have said those same words. Good luck.

I always want to punch myself if we've been arguing in the morning on our way to church and then I put on a sunny face for everyone when we get there.

So, with 4 kids and having to be at church at 8 am, we try to always have all our clothes picked out, ironed and laid out the night before. Man! does that ever help.

Amen to that! 3 out of 4 Sundays this is what our house sounds like. Thanks for being real and sharing that with us.

What was it about Sunday morning? I had a rough one, too, this weekend. {And I don't even have kids-hah!}

I came across your blog and 'm so glad I did! First, it's beautiful! Next, I can totally relate to the closet thing as my two girls share a room and there is no way on earth I can organize it to work. We too have the exact same thing happening before church. I'm the worship leader so it's never good to try to lead worship when I've just had two to stop a fight over tights or shoes, lol!! Can't wait to read more...

Oh, that made me GIGGLE!!! I think I might have to use that rule sometime! Closets can be horrible, horrible places, can't they?

Sundays are my FAVORITE day of the week...but sometimes before church isn't always pretty...
