Am I the only one that didn't see this one coming?

Oh it's happening. That is a real golden retriever puppy my Caroline is holding, with real fur that is going to be all over my house, and real puppy teeth that are going to attempt to chew on everything it sees, with a real bladder that is cannot yet hold, and a very real daddy that is the size of a small horse...and yet for some reason I can't wait for him to come home with us in two weeks. Aside from all these other problems that I have listed, there is yet another dilemma that is currently weighing on me: what are we going to name this boy???? Please help me, or otherwise my husband is going to make me name him Maximus, and then I am going to have to listen to "I am Maximus Desimus Meridius, Commander to the armies of the North, General to the Felix Legions, loyal servant to the true Emperor, Marcus Aurelius. Father to a murdered son, husband to a murdered wife. And I will have my vengeance in this life or the next"....for the rest of this dogs life.

Come on friends, start talking to me. Names?

Amy

when you texted me this pic yesterday, i could see this post coming a mile away. as for names...let's see....how about "regret"? just kidding. i will try to be happy for you guys in the midst of what Mary refers to as your train wreck. he is very cute. may need to remind Caroline that it's "not her dog"...she seems to be getting mighty cozy. on a serious note, i like to choose names for dogs based on names i like for children, but would never use them. just an idea.

Awww, that puppy is just way too cute for a name like Maximus. We're not very creative when it comes to naming pets. Our guinea pigs are named Snowy and Sandy. One is white and one is, you guessed it, a sandy color. ;)

Amy, that puppy is so adorable, and will make your house even more of a home! And what joy he will bring your kiddos! When we surprised our kids with a puppy 3 years ago, I had 3 adorable names picked out, but as soon as the kids saw him, they overrode me and named him after a favorite football player (Tedy) Bruschi (their dad was swaying them toward this too of course!). So much for Mom's vote!

What a cute puppy! I'm sure your kiddos will love him (as will you, though I'm sure there will be "accidents" that will cause you to question that!). Our Lab is very white just like your puppy - we named her Pearl. If we had gotten one of her brothers, we were going to name him Cotton - which I think is a perfect name for your new puppy!

ADORABLE! My husband is BEGGING me for a lab or golden retriever but I tell him that we are in the business of HUMAN babies, not PUPPY babies right now. Sigh . . . I fear I might lose that arguement too. :) As for a name, I bet it will come to you. I have a friend that just named their puppy Tucker, which is cute. We named our dog Boomer, short for Boomerang, because he wanted nothing more than to sit in my lap and when I put him on the ground, he would just boomerang right back to my lap. Enjoy your puppy!!

We vote for Maximus just so we can listen to Kevin say that all the time!!!

What a cutie! I love Golden Retrievers!

I hate to say it....but I really like Maximus too! Max would be really cute as the short version as well. Maybe the whole husband spill would die down after a while. Maybe Just let him win this time! Then maybe he'll make it up to you later! LOL

Oh. . . what an adorable puppy. No, make that Adorable, with a capital A.

And really, Maximus is not bad. Max is a good nickname. Maxie while he's little. And just think of the mileage you can get out of using his whole name when he's in trouble. "Maximus! Come here this instant!" Not that he'll ever be in trouble of course. No doubt he'll be the one dog who will never chew things or pee on the floor. :)

Good luck!

I foster Golden Retrievers, so I consulted my list of dogs that have come in! Here are some of my favs: Bear, Cooper, Moose, Milo, Hunter, Ace, Rufus, Cliff. Enjoy those puppy days! They don't last for long! And socialize, socialize, socialize!

Goldens are so wonderful with kids, we've had two. Reggie is our current 120lb. amazing boy. I can tell you, that dog would do anything for his family. :-)
Past dogs names have been...Alex, Rudy and Axle.
I also wanted the name 'Rubert' but it was too hard for the kids to say! ha

Ummmm, I'm sorry, you did not just say 120 lbs?????

We just got a new puppy last Saturday. Ours is a chocolate lab. The first thing I want to say is ~ DON'T DO IT! Hee-hee! Just kidding. We named ours Brinks. (My husband's choice because I wanted to get an alarm system for our house, and he said this will be our "alarm system." Hardy har har.) My favorite name was Maggie. I also think Lola is cute. Best wishes with your pup!

Ummm, yes I did...he's a bit overweight. :-) Actually, all he has to do is give those big brown eyes and it's his.
Reggie's Vet is not happy though.

Get the puppy, you will never regret it. No one will ever mess with you again. ha

Bull. Because he will most certainly be just that in a china shop (ie: your house).

or

Goliath... I have images of a big Golden barreling in "Come on Golly!"

He is irresistible, isn't he?

Maybe Goliath

We are nearing the end of year 1 with our golden doodle....and it's been a LOOONG year.

But that face....and how sweet she is. It makes all the puddles and chewed things worth it. Almost!

Options for names? What about the place where you met (our 1st date was at a place called Phil's) or the 1st street you lived on together (our house was on Bromley Lane- I thought Bromley was a great name) or something that you all love to do or eat (we thought about River or Biscuit).

I'm big on a name with a story.
Good luck! Goldens are the best!

We have a 'Duke'...he has been with us for 15 years. I love the name Maximus...sorry. He would be Max in our house. I may steal that for our next puppy.

What about Mischief? Seems to me with the kids around and your beautiful house to knock around in he will get into plent of Mischief!

SO CUTE! We just put a deposit on one to get the first pick this summer:-) Is that an English golden?

We're getting a girl and will probably call her Lucy.

For boys...hmmm its hard not to pick a name you would actually name your child. Since we don't have kids yet its been tough! I like Scout, Turner, Finn, Stuart, Hunter, Oliver...

Plain Jayne said...

I would name him Moses.

Our golden was named Elway (for the football player--my husband got him on Super Bowl Sunday when Denver was playing in the SB.) He was a great dog and we still miss him after he's been gone for 10 years. A great dog--hairy, but great! Enjoy your pup--he's beautiful.
